Monty Panesar talks about AB de Villiers’, inclusion of Tahir for Chennai & more in ‘Week with Monty Panesar’

Sports enthusiasts and experts, all have eyes are on the ongoing Indian Premier League in the UAE at present. With every match going down to the wire, the intensity of the cash rich league is at its peak right now. Four week into the tournament, staying updated with latest happenings in and around IPL is what every sports lover is looking for. While searching for latest IPL updates, I found this interesting interview by England’s famous cricketer Monty Panesar with SportsTiger. In the video, the left arm spinner was sharing his views about the recently concluded week four of the IPL. This was a special segment from SportsTiger called ‘Week with Monty Panesar’ wherein the legendary spinner reviews all the matches which were conducted in the past week.

The interview started in an inspiring manner with Monty talking about the three super overs in a day saga and the heroics of ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle!

Talking about the game of the week, Bangalore vs Kolkata, he praised AB de Villiers for his heroics against KKR. He shed light on why AB has been so successful in every IPL season and what is the motivating factor which gets him going. He also compared Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers playing stance, saying AB is a more back foot player whereas King Kohli is much of a front foot player.

During the conversation, when being asked about if Sam Curran should open the innings for CSK, Monty stressed on the importance of getting Imran Tahir back in the playing XI. He did not reject the possibility of even dropping Sam Curran to get in veteran Imran Tahir.

Monty talking about table toppers Delhi Capitals hinted on why Shreyas Iyer should be the next successor after Virat Kohli as the Indian captain. One interesting point brought up by Monty was inability of Andre Russell to give those superb finishes to the Kolkata Knight Riders. He conveyed that Dre Russ lack of form is what is restricting KKR from reaching above par totals.

On being asked about what should be the opening combination for Rajasthan Royals, he considered Jos Buttler should open for them instead of Ben Stokes. Stokes will be more useful for RR in the number 5 spot according to him. Monty gave an interesting correlation between Shikhar Dhawan from DC and Quinton de Kock from MI. He said that both of them could not perform well at the start of IPL but with time and support from coaches they are now leading their side to wins.

Monty Panesar also was asked to form his IPL XI of the week where he picked 4 Indian players and 7 international players in his team. Find out which are the players he picked in his IPL XI on the SportsTiger app, or via SportsTiger YouTube channel and enjoy this great one-on-one conversation in ‘Week with Monty Panesar’.
